Don’t waste money on products you don’t need!

The first step in any successful organic lawn and landscape care program is a soil test.  Soil testing determines the nutrient density of your soil and helps us recommend a program to help you achieve beautiful lawns, trees, and shrubs.  A soil test can be considered a “road map” for the organic treatment of soil.  By reading the map, we can understand where we are, determine where we want to be, and decide the best route to our destination (a healthy and safe lawn).

Regular soil testing and record keeping will allow you to see the changes that an organic approach to landscaping can bring to your soil.  Under most circumstances, we recommend that soil samples be tested every two years.  In some cases, such as poor soil fertility, soils treated with chemical fertilizers and herbicides within the last three years, and soils that are severely out of balance, more frequent soil testing and/or a more detailed test analysis may be recommended.

Soil Test - Do-It-Yourself

An economical option for beginning an organic program

A Plant Place associate will show you how to take a soil sample from your property.  Within two weeks after the sample is provided to one of our associates, you will receive a detailed lab report with our recommendations to help you get your organic program started.

Price:    $45

Lawn Consultation & Soil Test

The Complete Package

An onsite consultation with a Plant Place associate which includes:

  • Measuring the turf area
  • Assessing the turf density and soil composition
  • Identifying weeds and disease problems
  • Assessing the environmental conditions that affect turf quality
  • Discussing your specific family or pet needs
  • Taking a soil sample for analysis

Within two weeks of the consultation, you will receive a detailed soil lab report that assesses the health of your soil.  From this starting point, we can customize a lawn care program that meets your soil’s unique profile.

Price:    $95     **Half of this fee will be credited toward your customized organic lawn care program if you decide to use our services.  (Initial consultation does not imply commitment to our services.  You may use the information from the soil analysis to design a do-it-yourself program with our guidance if desired.)

Plant Tissue Analysis

Soil testing and plant tissue analysis are designed to work together.  Soil testing identifies the soil nutrient reserves and predicts the nutrient needs, while plant tissue analysis identifies the plant’s actual nutrient intake.  Plant tissue analysis is done on as-needed basis.

Cost:    $45

Water Analysis

Water testing is usually done along with other testing.  Basic testing includes: pH, density (hardness), total dissolved solids, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper chloride, sulfates, and nitrates.  Testing for additional item is available if desired.

Pricing for this testing is determined based on testing requested.
